I love to CREATE so many different things in my life. I create for my husband, my children and also for me! When I create ambiance in our master bedroom, a holiday table-scape, or storage for my little ones, I stand back and smile. I’ve created something that will benefit someone, somehow, some way… and that’s a cool feeling :)

Prayer Pot

Standard

Recently, Rocco’s prayers have sounded a little like this and REALLY FAST like one of those auctioneer guys: “Dear Jesus, Thank you for this food, for Julia, for Mommy, for Daddy, for Roman. AMEN.”  I’ve been trying to talk to him about how to pray and how prayer is like a conversation.  I told him that he can just talk to Jesus like he talks to me.  I told him to think of a few specifics about 1 or 2 things/people that he could pray about.  Such as this:  If he is praying for ‘Daddy’, what is it about daddy that he wants to pray for?  That led to him to say this, “I pray that daddy has a good day at work & a safe drive home. Amen.”  PERFECT.  Those are specifics.  Now, not to leave Roman (age 2) out but when we pray together as a family, he just repeats everything Rocco says unless one of us are alone with him in his room – then when asked what he wants to pray about, he lists everyone in the family.  Its sweet!  I don’t get much detail out of Roman’s prayers right now, but that’s ok.  We made our Prayer Pots right before I needed to start cooking dinner… It didn’t take long and I plan to spruce them up on the next snowy/rainy day!  We decided to leave them on our kitchen table & at each meal, we will pull 1 or 2 sticks out and pray for 1 or 2 specific things about whats written on the stick.  I also told Rocco that if wanted to pray for everything that’s written on each prayer stick, he can just hold his pot in his hands and pray.  He liked that idea and did a test run after I said it.

Are We There Yet?

Standard

“………Are we there yet?”  “Is that where we’re going?”  “Over there?”  “Look at that building!  Is that it?………”

I decided it was time to make a map for Rocco to relieve me from constantly saying, “NO, we are not there yet.” during our car-rides.  Are you going through this with your kids?  I am with Rocco.  ALL THE TIME.  I thought that if I drew a simple map for him, it would help our car situation.  So here’s the deal.  Before we left for an evening out the other night, I sat down with the boys, ripped a piece of computer paper in 1/2 and drew them each a map from Our House to the Pizza Shop (our 1st stop).  We were going to be in the car for about 25 minutes and our plan was to get pizza first, then get haircuts.  It was simple.  I drew a box house at the bottom of the page and then added a few locations on the way that he knows of and can recognize any day of the week (his cousin’s house, his pre-school, a bridge, the mall, etc.)  It was time to put the map to the test!  Boots, Hats, Coats = We’re Off!  So, did it work?

YES!  We had the best car ride and this was such a fun activity for him too!  I talked to him along the way and told him where we were, he pointed out things I drew on his map, and not ONCE did he ask, “Are we there yet?” or “Is that where we’re going?”  It took all but 2 minutes to draw my masterpiece and worked like a charm!  I think I may make a map for every car trip longer than 10 minutes from now on.  Try it!  And don’t forget to draw 5 or so places on the way to your destination that is familiar to your child – In the car, talk to your child.  You can ask, “Whats next?” or tell them, “This is the ____. Now what comes after the ____?”

I guarantee your next car-ride will be awesome!

Girls Night Out Party at my Place

Standard

Last night, I hosted a Willow House Party for about 25 of my girl friends.  It was so nice to see them after the holidays – feels like its been months!  I’m thinking I should host a party every January!  We all lose touch over Christmas, some travel, others have family staying with them, we’re all planning and preparing for Christmas; January is a perfect time to reconnect, catch up and get something new for ourselves!  Its like a little reward for all of our hard work over the past few months!  Willow House has beautiful home items and the perks of being a host are too good to pass up!  I think we’re all at the stage now where we’re done buying junky items for our homes that will break next year – we’re done using our college things, we’ve had our wedding showers and we’re in the stage of adding more quality pieces to our homes that will last a life-time!  So last night, we shopped!  and shopped! and shopped! It was a great time!

For the party, I had around 10 appetizers and all things CHOCOLATE for dessert.  Oh, and how could I forget the Sangria and Punch too? YUM!  The Willow House representative, Vicki Brown did an amazing job with the show and brought a large selection for my girls to look at!  I want to inspire you to host an after holiday girls night out!  Its SO needed & it doesn’t take a whole lot to put a nice spread of appetizers out for your guests!

O is for Organize!

Standard

Well, if you were wondering where I’ve been, I spent most of the weekend in my closet, organizing everything from my clothes & shoes to my jewelry & scarves.  It feels so good and looks great too!  I feel fresh and organized for the year ahead!  I know what I own, I found a few things I forgot I had and realized I could use (well, I should say want) a few things as well.  (yes, just a fewRead the rest of this entry

Too cool not to share….

Standard

I went back to ‘that’ boutique today.  You know, the one where the owner gave me trouble about exchanging a dress (my Christmas Gift) that didn’t fit?  Well, the dress I bought (in exchange for the dress that didn’t fit) DIDN’T FIT!  AGAIN!  (& no, I didn’t try it on – I know.  I should have but I had both of the boys with me in a 10×10 store.)  I knew she’d put up a fight but guess what?  She wasn’t there!  There was a young chick that didn’t know the original story & allowed me to exchange the dress – haaa haaa!  I laughed my way out the door with 2 new AWESOME HAND-BAGS! She has my number though.

DIY Christmas Cards – We tried.

Standard

I love receiving Christmas cards with pictures of perfect little kids standing still and smiling big… Their tongues are in their mouth, they are clean and happy; its just beautiful!  OK, I admit, I’m a bit envious.  I wish our cards looked like that.  This year, I canceled our photo session that would have left me sweating and anxious needing a Venti Mocha STAT.  I didn’t have the energy and I convinced hubby to create a DIY Christmas Card with me.  I was determined to set up lighting, dress the kids and do this.  It took all of my energy & just when I thought I may have gotten that ‘ONE picture’, I realized I put Roman’s shoes on BACKWARDS.  Awesome.

This my friends, is a glimpse of what it took to CREATE our CHRISTMAS CARD.  and BTW I’m thinking an e-card might do this year.  Especially since its the 12th of Dec.
