Chicken Soup.

Standard

My mom gave me a chicken carcass the other day and I made my own broth from it.  In my opinion, its so much better than canned broth but I have nothing against it and use it myself when I don’t have my own.  I’m also unsure why I always make HOT meals on HOT days.  The last 80 degree day I made calzones in a 400 degree oven and this 80 degree day, I made a big pot of Chicken Soup.  Maybe during the next snow fall, I’ll put together a large garden salad and then I’ll really have something pretty sweet going on here at 1046!

I’m still reminiscing about Easter weekend… It was so wonderful!  The time spent with family, good food, good conversation & fellowship, lots of play time & cute Easter outfits too — Not to mention, I still can’t believe my 2 little guys kept their white Easter pants CLEAN all day long!  Yes, its the little things that make me happy!  Like the fact that they also wore their hats the whole day too!  Priceless.

OH PATIENCE! WHERE ARE YOU?!?!?

Standard

I’m losing my patience today.  Actually, I’ve lost it.  Its gone.  I can’t find it and you know what?  I’m not even gonna look for it.  If I don’t sit down right now, I know one more thing will happen and I’ll be pushed over the edge today.  I know the saying goes, “God only gives you what you can handle.”  Well, guess what?  I can’t handle MY DOG anymore.  Beau is driving. me. up. a. WALL.  He adds so much un-needed stress to my day and I seriously need him out of here.  In fact, so much so, I put him outside this morning and shut the door.  Yep, I did.  I shut the door.  He stood there and I went upstairs to put Roman’s clean quilt on his bed.  Then, I ran the vacuum on the 2nd floor.  Rocco let him in.  Lucky dog, he knew I had no plans of doing such a thing.  I think people just think I’m kidding about needing to find another home for this dog but I’m not!  Oh trust me, I’m not kidding.  You see, as if you don’t know this: Our patience as mothers is already tested on on day to day basis with our children.  In my case, one that entered the ‘Terrible Twos’ and another who is exiting the ‘Terrible Three’s’ and entering into the ‘I found my attitude’ stage.  Its amazing, I’m obsessed with my kids, but they absolutely test me and my patience at least once per day.  Now add my DOG to the craziness of 1046 and its enough to make me want to punch a hole in the wall (and then eat a couple candy bars). Weekend Bliss.

Standard

As I was washing dishes on Thursday Night, I realized I wasn’t hearing the typical boy noise I usually hear when Brian is home from work.  On a typical spring evening, he arrives home, changes his clothes, devours his food then takes Rocco & Roman outside to play.  It gives me a little ‘down time’ to check my e-mail, do the dishes, put laundry away, etc. before the night routine.  Surely they must be up to something because no noise is no good (at least at 1046).  I walked to our side window that overlooks the driveway where the boys ride their bikes.  No sign of my 3 guys.  Check out the front door.  Again, no sign of my 3 guys.  I walked to the back of the house and peaked out of the sun-room windows.  There in the distance, were my 3 guys all in white shirts.  I could spot them quickly while looking at the green and brown landscape.  Watching them walk through the woods made me grin from ear to ear.  I knew my husband was in his glory and seeing them together makes my heart happy!  I snapped this picture and it made me think; this is why I blog.  I blog so I can remember and I know when I look back on this picture, I’ll remember how I felt when I took it:  So happy.  So proud.  So content.

Just another day at 1046 with Roman.

Standard

My dear Roman.  He holds this spot in my heart that no other human being could ever come into.  Not to mention, I could kiss his tiny lips & listen to his raspy little voice all day long.  Roman turned 2 in November.  But in our opinion (Brian and I), he turned 2 just a few weeks ago.  He’s finding trouble wherever he goes and doesn’t listen to a word he’s told unless it has to do with eating a piece of chocolate or getting a vitamin.  His tantrums and defiant manner can be frustrating but because he’s my 2nd, I know this too shall pass and I find myself laughing more than getting frustrated.  His favorite words are “me-do” and “no”!  You could say he’s showing his age.

This morning, I woke to the sound of hangers breaking.  YES, that’s correct.  Hangers breaking.  My little man Roman is a tad too obsessed with choosing his clothes for the day.  He thinks if he wakes up early and gets to his clothes before me, he’ll win the daily wardrobe battle.  Smart boy but I can hear the plastic snapping from clear across the hall bright and early and usually stop him dead in his tracks.  “Mommy!  I get dressed!” he tells me as 4 broken plastic hanger pieces lay on the  floor.  Here’s what he tells me that he wants to wear:

“Wet-pants” — Sweatpants

“Checkers” — A green hoodie that is checkered like a race track flag

“Wish pants” — Swishy pants

“Fi-fops” — Flip-flops

If Roman had it his way, he’d wear Puma or Nike swish-shorts, a long sleeve t-shirt, winter socks up to his knees and a checkered green hoodie.  Then he’d slip his sock covered PiggyToes in a pair of flip-flops and be ready for the day.  Honestly, one day I’ll just let him go out in public like this.  Heck, it would be a morning full of giggles and good conversation but I still don’t have the guts.  In my opinion, its completely inappropriate.  Wouldn’t you say?

I guess in the scheme of things, it could be worse.

The sun is shining, birds are chirping and Spring has Sprung!

In Roman’s world, that just means:  Bring out the Socks & Flip-Flops ; )

Cook’n Recipe Organizer

Standard

BREAKING NEWS!  My recipes are finally organized!  (Well… Getting there!)  I’m SO EXCITED to share this amazing tool with you.  Its one I personally feel every mama needs!  When introduced to Cook’n a few weeks ago, I was beyond impressed.  You know that I love to cook and bake!  You also know that I love organization.  But when it comes to my recipes, they were stored everywhere ~ In a wicker basket (poorly alphabetized), saved in my e-mail (under recipes), hand written (on sticky notes in my kitchen drawer), stuck inside cookbooks (with food stains on them), saved under ‘Recipes’ in my iPhone.  It was ridiculous and I needed a solution!  This software program has changed this area of my life and I’m so happy to have been given the opportunity to share it with you!
